Dream cues boost skill learning via targeted REM sleep replay
Konkoly et al. paired harmonica-playing and bubble-blowing tasks with distinct sound cues, then had participants mentally rehearse those tasks when hearing the sounds.
During REM sleep, replaying one task's sound biased which dream occurred — proving we can steer dream content through external audio stimulation alone.
The finding opens a path to consolidating specific memories and accelerating skill acquisition, though current methods are crude compared to direct neural stimulation.
