AI safety talent needs to spread beyond SF, London, DC
Most AI safety researchers cluster in five cities: San Francisco, Berkeley, London, Oxford, and Washington D.C. A few runner-up hubs (Boston, Toronto, New York, Singapore, Cambridge) host co-working spaces like Constellation, Mox, and LISA.
But North America has many tech talent pools without dedicated AI safety hubs. As the field scales, the gap widens — and leading researchers say more scaling is needed.
The argument: distributed hubs would help the ecosystem grow faster and reach talent already embedded in regional tech communities.
